Hand-carved Welsh love spoons

Welsh love spoons have been given as love tokens since the 17th century. Using my own designs, I carve traditional and unique love spoons out of lime: an indigenous species used for centuries for wood carving.

Besom Brooms

I began making besoms 20years ago when I was 18 and have been making them ever since. The birch for the heads is cut in the winter months when the the leaves are absent and the sap level is much reduced. The handles are made from coppiced hazel and occaisionally ash by carefully selecting the straightest rods.

Besoms are the ideal brush for all your garden needs. They sweep away the leaves (even off gravel) and wormcasts. You can sweep in hard to get to corners and cracks in between paving .

Hand-carved Oak garden benches, memorial benches, garden features, green memorials and headstones.

I carve solid oak garden features which make a great centre piece for any rockery or flower bed. I am happy to accept commissions and will consider most designs. I also carve benches out of 4″ thick oak.

Green oak Memorial stones/ headstones

It is now becoming common for people to be buried in green burial sites, often in tranquil woodland settings. In most cases headstones have to be environmentally friendly and biodegradable. I now carve memorials out of oak, a wood that will last outside for many decades. Please email me to discuss your requirements. Wood Jewellery

I turn wooden pendants and earrings from a range of interesting woods. Most of the woods are britsh and have been made from larger logs that I have sliced up and dried out in my workshop.

I like to use woods that have and interesting grain such as burrs or spalted wood (wood that has been patterned by the action of  fungi but that has not begun to rot). I do also use a few tropical hardwoods such as purple heart and cocobola as they have no equivalent looking  british wood. All my earings have sterling silver loops.
